Cave Painting Of Dambulu Temple

 Dambulu Temple is a historical and archaeologically important temple. One of the largest and best -  preserved cave temple complexes in Sri Lanka, believed to have been built during the reign of King Walagamba . There are about 80 cave temples in The Dambulu temple complex. The painting and Buddha images here are connected to the life of  Lord Buddha.  An area of about 2100 square meters has been created with precious murals. 

                                      

In Dewaraja Viharaya, Mahaa Viharaya, Maha Aluth Viharaya and Pashchima Viharaya paintings belongoing to the Kandy period can be seen. Painting are drawn here using Yellow, Red and White colors on a Black background.  There are 1012 painting here, we can see the Decorative designs, Lotus flowers and Mangala dreams of Yashodara Dewi. These are unique in that they are designed with simple and elegant decorations. Painting of the Kandy period are mostly seen here, but painting styles of the Polonnaruwa period can also be seen.
